EDGES Symposium- Unsettling the Museum: Thinking through Indigenous Entanglements, 8–10 July 2026.
EDGES: Entangling Indigenous Knowledges in Universities, in collaboration with the Institute for Museums, Heritage and Society (IMHS), University of St Andrews, invites submissions and participation in the international symposium Unsettling the Museum: Thinking through Indigenous Entanglements, to be held 8–10 July 2026.
This symposium brings together Indigenous and non-Indigenous scholars, curators, artists, and community practitioners to critically reflect on museums as postcolonial institutions shaped through complex Indigenous entanglements. Across three thematic strands, the event will explore Indigenous agency, decolonial curatorial practices, reparative approaches to collections, and new relational ethics of care, collaboration, and knowledge-making.
Participants are invited to engage with the symposium in two ways:
- As presenters, by submitting a paper proposal in response to the attached Call for Papers.
- As attendees, joining the discussions, workshops, and exchanges without presenting a paper. Early bird discount is available until the end of March.
The Call for Papers provides full details on symposium themes, submission guidelines, and key dates. Contributions from Indigenous researchers, artists, curators, and community practitioners are especially encouraged, alongside interdisciplinary and international perspectives. Information and registration here: https://www.eventsforce.
The symposium is organised as part of the EDGES project, with the support of ICOM’s International Committee for Social Museology (SOMUS) and International Committee of Museology (ICOFOM).
Please feel free to circulate this invitation within your networks.
